A bandage-like microneedle patch could soon replace the traditional flu shot.

The patch contains 100 microneedles which store the vaccine. It is administered by placing the patch on the back of the wrist where the vaccine is inserted into the outer layer of skin and dissolved.

Additionally, this new method of vaccine delivery does not require refrigeration which traditional flu vaccines require. The patch can be stored at room-temperature, eliminating many potential cold-chain problems.

The microneedle patch is still in its initial phase trial but researches hope the ease and effectiveness will increase its popularity.
